Oct 2008 - John Monckton Award Runners Up
We were delighted to learn that Ridgeway House were runners up in this year's John Monckton Award. This special award was introduced in memory of our late Trustee, John Monckton. The remit this year was "How we as a staff team have improved both the nutritional value and the enjoyment of meal times for our residents." Rather than directing our efforts to our residents as a group, we wanted to achieve a personal touch for each individual and after discussion with our residents we hoped to achieve this with the introduction of our "Dish of the Day." We also hoped it would enable residents to feel they were able to contribute and take part in the choice of meals and seasonal menu planning at Ridgeway House. Each resident was asked for their choice of meal by our chef thus ensuring feedback to her in person and also in order that nutritional value could then be balanced by an alternative choice selected by her. Dish of the Day has been running since April and everyday there is a resident's choice on the menu. As we have obtained feedback, it has evolved to cover breakfast, tea times and days of interest. Below are some photographs of our residents enjoying their "Dish of the Day."
Jenny chose Roast Chicken
Len selected Liver and Onions
Joan said she thoroughly enjoyed her Ham Salad
Grace said she enjoyed all her meals at Ridgeway House but was particularly partial to Salmon...
Which we "served" on the mens finals day at Wimbledon
Charlie said his choice of Spaghetti Bolognaise was the best he had tasted outside Italy and asked our chef to throw the spaghetti at the wall to make sure it was cooked properly!
Gerald requested a glass of wine with his dinner each Sunday which has now been arranged for him and any other resident who would like to join him
We hope you can see from these pictures (and there are many more) just how much our residents enjoy their dishes, menu planning and sharing the experience with others. Dish of the Day is something which will continue to run and develop at Ridgeway House for the benefit of our residents. We would also like to congratulate the winners of this years award Westgate House and look forward to seeing their entry in the next Trust in Care magazine.
