Moving into a care home, like any house move, is a major step and so it’s important you make the right decision. The first thing to do is establish the type of service you require and particular facilities that may be important to you. Your GP will be able to guide you with regard to the first issue and it is worth writing a list to cover your own personal requirements and preferences so that you can compare what is on offer at different homes.
In researching suitable homes, you may find it useful to visit the website of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) – www.cqc.org.uk. (see What are Care Ratings for more details about CQC and how their reports can help you.)
OSJCT provides a wide range of services within our different homes including residential, nursing, dementia, day care and short term care for respite and convalescent periods. Each home will vary with the service they offer and the skills and facilities provided. By using the Where we Are section of this website, you will be able to find out what services are provided in different homes, location of the home and contact details.
Once you have established which homes you think will be able to provide the service you require, you can contact them and request further information by way of a brochure. However, probably the best thing is for you to arrange a visit to look around the premises, talk to residents and staff and ask more in-depth questions. This gives you a good feel for the home and will help you to decide whether the home is right for you or not. You can visit any of our homes at any time but you may find it more beneficial to make an appointment to ensure that the Home Manager will be there when you visit. However, if circumstances are such that you can’t visit the home in person, don’t worry. We will do our best to provide you with as much information as we can in the most practical way. If at all possible we will send someone from the home to visit you. We can provide pictures and of course our Home Managers are available at the end of a telephone line or by email to answer any questions you may have.
Choosing a care home isn’t always easy. At OSJCT we are very aware that the success of any of our homes depends on meeting the needs of the people who use our services. We will always strive to fulfil as many of your requirements as possible.
