Jan 2010 - The 5th Earl of Gainsborough, JP
It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of our Founder Chairman, Lord Gainsborough, at the age of 86.
In 1991, Lord Gainsborough became Chairman of the Board of Management of what was then the Order of Malta Homes. He continued in this role when the new Orders of St John Trust was formed in 1992 to take the transfer of 16 Lincolnshire County Council care homes. He led the activities of the Trust in Lincolnshire until his retirement in 1998 and always maintained a keen interest in the Trust's developments and activities thereafter.
We were always delighted to welcome him to Trust events, most notably the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the transfer of the Lincolnshire homes in 2002 (picture above), and more recently at the Lincolnshire County Awards ceremony in June 2009.
His enormous efforts on behalf of the Trust, particularly in the early years, were invaluable in laying a solid foundation upon which the success of the organisation has been built and his wise advice over the years has been greatly appreciated by Home, County and Trust management alike.
He will be much missed and we send our deepest sympathy to his family at this sad time.
