Feb 2010 - Order of Malta in Haiti

The Order of Malta, one of OSJCT's sponsoring Orders, has played an active part in the disaster relief effort following the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti.

The Order of Malta was already present in Haiti running their own small embassy and a hospital in the north of the island. A team from Malteser International was on the ground in a matter of days setting up an aid post in the destroyed city of Leogane and now provides water for 16,000 people. The hospital is the only one left intact in Haiti and has been expanded to some 100 beds. The British Association of the Order (BASMOM) and friends have already raised in excess of $200,000 and anyone wishing to donate can visit www.justgiving.com/FAS
