All registered care homes are inspected regularly by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Since Spring 2009, they have published overall quality ratings for care homes, also called “Star Ratings”. The inspection process and the ratings are based on National Minimum Standards laid down by the Department of Health . These are grouped into seven categories, as follows:
- Choice of home
- Daily Life and Social Activities
- Health & Personal Care
- Complaints and Protection
- Environment
- Staffing
- Management & Administration
Three Stars = Excellent; Two Stars = Good; One Star = Adequate
No stars may mean “Poor” or that the home has not yet been rated.
You can find inspection reports in full on the CQC website (www.cqc.org.uk). The latest report for each of our care homes can be found on their individual pages on this website. Click here to go to “Where we are”. A home that has received an “Excellent” (Three Star) rating may not be inspected for up to three years.
Over 90% of OSJCT homes are rated Excellent or Good, compared with a national average of just over 70%.
