Meet the team

The talented chef and kitchen team prepare tasty, home-cooked meals on site daily from our own kitchens. We source quality produce for our excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. All-day dining is available for lighter meals and snacks and all dishes are carefully balanced to get the best nutritional value and cater for individual dietary requirements and preferences.

Seasonal produce is chosen whenever possible and of course, relatives and friends are always welcome to join us. The menus change daily and the kettle is always on. Our chef bakes every day so there is always a fresh cake for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Residents are also encouraged to help prepare their own food and to make snacks whenever they choose.

Whether it’s wet or dry outside, we at OSJCT feel that activities are essential in providing the best caring environment to live in.

Hobbies don’t simply stop when living with us at Apple Trees Care and Reablement Centre. We have a dedicated Activities Co-ordinator who works closely with our residents to create a programme of fulfilling activities and events, tailored around each resident’s requests, hobbies and interests. The programme of events and activities provide a source of fun and laughter, to help each resident live their life to the full and make new friendships.

We are also fortunate to have the support of many volunteers of all ages from the local community, strengthening our links to this thriving town. Here is a sample of activities on offer:

  • Trips to garden centres, cafés, pubs, sporting events, National Trust parks, wildlife parks, aquariums and museums.
  • Visit from Pets as Therapy Dogs
  • Exercise and wellness activities, for example Seated Yoga, Zumba

With so many well-being activities for body and mind on offer, we also recognise that everyone needs some personal space for relaxation and mindfulness for personal reflection. The cosy lounges offer an opportunity for some quiet time or to host family and friends.

And that’s not all:

We’ve had silent discos, hoe downs, Chinese banquets, Oscar parties and so much more.

Many of the activities feature Reminiscence Therapy to aid those living with Dementia to remember events, people and places using sight, touch, taste, smell and sound.

As we are on the outskirts of a thriving town - within a vibrant community, there's never a dull moment. We run regular activities for all to join in:

  • Coffee mornings
  • Care home open day
  • Summer and Autumn fetes
  • Christmas parties

Meet the team

Home Manager

Sal is the Home Manager at Apple Trees. Sal started working for The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) in 2016 as Head of Care at Beckside in North Hykeham.

During the next six years, Sal used her nursing expertise to support a number of other OSJCT care homes in Head of Care and Home Manager roles across Lincolnshire. These included The Poplars, Gregory House, and Apple Trees. In November 2022, Sal was delighted to be offered the permanent Home Manager role at Apple Trees.

“Coming back to Apple Trees felt like coming home due to the connection I have with the home after supporting them on four separate occasions, including throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. I’m thrilled to work for such a dedicated, committed, and passionate team,” said Sal.

Earlier in 2022, Sal was one of only four care workers in Lincolnshire to be invited to a ceremony at The Oratory in Brompton within the Knightsbridge area of the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea. At the ceremony, Sal was deservedly presented with a medal at the request of The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta for her heroic work and commitment during the Covid-19 pandemic. Reflecting on the day and achievement, Sal said: “It was the most spectacular ceremony that truly gave meaning to every day of my 34-year career within Health & social Care. Receiving my medal was a very special and emotional moment. It was a time to reflect on those we lost, those we helped recover and the outstanding team that worked alongside me.”

Outside of work, Sal enjoys spending time with her three children and carrying out the role of Mum’s taxi. She also enjoys spending time reading true life stories – particularly when the book is covered in sand from being on a stunning beach somewhere!

Activity Coordinator

Julie has worked at Apple Trees since June 2017, previously working at Vale Garden Houses.

Julie enjoys planning and facilitating a wide range of stimulating activities, promoting independence to meet our residents' lifestyle choices.

Julie has recently undertaken minibus training and takes the residents out on weekly outings.
