Meet the team

The talented chef and kitchen team prepare tasty, home-cooked meals on site daily from our own kitchens. We source quality produce for our excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. All-day dining is available for lighter meals and snacks and all dishes are carefully balanced to get the best nutritional value and cater for individual dietary requirements and preferences.

Seasonal produce is chosen whenever possible and of course, relatives and friends are always welcome to join us. The menus change daily and the kettle is always on. Our chef bakes every day so there is always a fresh cake for residents, friends and family to enjoy.

Each of the households has their own small kitchen dining room where residents can take their meals if they wish. Residents are also encouraged to help prepare their own food and to make snacks whenever they choose.

With so many well-being activities for body and mind on offer, we also recognise that everyone needs some personal space for relaxation and mindfulness for personal reflection. The cosy lounges offer an opportunity for some quiet time or to host family and friends.

And that’s not all:

We’ve had silent discos, hoe downs, Chinese banquets, Oscar parties and so much more. Many of the activities feature Reminiscence Therapy to aid those living with Dementia to remember events, people and places using sight, touch, taste, smell and sound.

As we are on the outskirts of a market town - within a vibrant community, there's never a dull moment. We run regular activities for all to join in:

  • Coffee mornings
  • Care Home Open Day

Meet the team

Home Manager

Gence started working at Chestnut Court as the Home Manager in February 2020. Before moving to Chestnut Court Gence had spent 8 years working as a Home Manager with another care provider. Gence has a background in nursing with over 20 years’ experience.

“From the first moment I visited Chestnut Court, I knew it was the home for me. There was a lovely atmosphere running throughout the home. I was also attracted to the values OSJCT has an organisation. They put their residents and team at the heart of everything they do.” Gence said.

During his time at Chestnut Court, Gence has overseen an improved CQC rating and led the home throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite this, Gence acknowledges that his proudest moment is the way the team has stuck together throughout.

“I am incredibly proud of the way the team has stuck together. I could not have done it without them.”

Activities Co-ordinators

Ruth and Leah are our mother and daughter dream team of Activity Co-ordinators at Chestnut Court.

Having worked at Chestnut Court for over 16 years, Ruth sees the home as much more than just a place of work and can’t imagine working anywhere else.

“I am passionate about Chestnut Court. I see the residents here as my friends and I am very lucky that I get to spend time with them as part of my job.”

Leah also has a strong connection with Chestnut Court, having spent so much time at the home with residents during her upbringing.

“I have been coming to Chestnut Court since I was 9 years old. I can remember coming into the home to spend with residents here whilst growing up – even on Christmas Day! Whilst at University studying Illustration, I would come back to Chestnut Court during my time off to help out as well.”

Their role as Activity Co-ordinators within the home is to support the wellbeing of residents with a stimulating and varied programme of activities.

“Our aim is to allow people to maintain the interests and hobbies they have had all their lives as much as we can. We also enjoy helping them to develop new interests and overcome barriers.”

With such a strong connection to the home built up over a number of years, it was impossible for Ruth and Leah to pick just one favourite memory of their time at Chestnut Court.

“We love spending time with the residents. There have been times when we have done the conga around the home with residents, looked through their photo albums with them and so much more. Hearing some of their brilliant life stories and getting them to open up to us is the best feeling.”

Bursar

Rachael started working at Chestnut Court in 2018 as an Admin Assistant. In 2019, she was promoted into her current role of Bursar.

Rachael is incredibly popular amongst staff, residents and their loved ones at Chestnut Court.

“There is a brilliant community spirit at Chestnut Court. I am very fortunate to have made some very close friends with staff, residents and their families during my time here.”

Before starting at Chestnut Court, Rachael had various experiences working in the hospitality and customer service sector.

“I have always enjoyed working with people in customer service. I started off working in Ibiza as a Rep for a summer, I worked as a groupie at a PGL outdoor activities centre and I have also worked for a range of 5-star hotels.”

Speaking about her time at Chestnut Court, Rachael is full of compliments for her time at the home.

“I have made so many beautiful memories during my time here – it is impossible to pick just one that comes to mind! It truly is the most rewarding and valuable jobs.”
