Residents at Apple Trees Care Centre in Grantham enjoyed a wide variety of activities throughout last week as part of The Orders of St John Care Trust’s “I can’t believe it’s a care home week”.
Homes across the Trust were invited to run a variety of positive and engaging activities throughout the week to challenge expectations about what life in care homes is like.
The first activity organised by the team at Apple Trees was a “Back to School” themed day where colleagues dressed up as pupils and teachers, and arranged a variety of school themed activities as well as a special “School Dinners” menu. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to go back in time and reminisce about their own school days.
The following day, residents were treated to a visit from animal handling specialists ZooLab. The team from ZooLab brought in a whole host of creepy crawlies and furry friends including snakes, giant snails, spiders, frogs and rats. ZooLab hosted a workshop with some fun facts as well as giving some of our braver residents and colleagues the chance to handle the animals, reptiles and insects!
The week of activities was brought to a close with a social event at a local garden centre where residents from Apple Trees, Beckside and Gregory House met for a tasty lunch and enjoyed catching up whilst shopping for new plants and gifts.
“I can’t believe it’s a care home week” was a great example of the diverse and engaging activities that are organised for our residents to enjoy on weekly basis at Apple Trees and across the Trust. This week, Apple Trees’ brand new monthly Gents’ Club will launch at the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln, another fantastic activity that is sure to be thoroughly enjoyed by all.
