Despite the change in weather from continental warmth to the standard British summertime affair (otherwise known as rain) residents and families of Avonbourne Care Centre enjoyed a lovely laughter and music-filled indoor picnic.
Preparations for our summer fete began several months ago with the activities, kitchen and care teams all working together to make sure the day was set to be a wonderful experience for all those involved. Despite the change in location from outdoors to indoors, we were delighted to see so many families and residents’ loved ones turn up to our event.
We were very lucky to have the brilliant Brian Slade provide an amazing, engaging and dance-filled afternoon of pop hits through the ages. Not only did he have staff dancing on the floor, we had several residents join in, showing us their slick moves on the dance floor.
While music filled the air, there was a bit of a competition going on: families and loved ones of our residents were asked to bring in a decorated picnic basket with their food. These were to be judged by us with a prize for the best basket. The families and loved ones really outdid themselves with the creativity of decoration. There was, however, one standout basket, decorated with the characters from Winnie-the-Pooh.
A big thank you goes out to the hard work of our kitchen staff who put together picnic boxes packed full of snacks for all the residents at Avonbourne. Judging by the beaming smiles of our residents they were a great success.
We’d also like to thank the Activities Coordinators who put together this wonderful event. They work hard every day to put smiles on our residents’ faces and without them we would not have had as much dancing or as many smiles on this special day.
We look forward to seeing the families and loved ones of our residents again at our other events this year.
