The town of Thornbury was treated to a very special evening, with the community invited to celebrate the long-awaited opening of Grace Care Centre.
Grace Care Centre is The Orders of St John Care’s (OSJCT) newest home and is its first in South Gloucestershire. The evening provided an opportunity for the community to meet the new team at the home and have a tour of the facilities, which includes 70-bedrooms offering compassionate and personalised 24-hour specialist dementia and nursing care.
Two visitors expressed interest in volunteering in the home, whilst another two were drawn to full-time employment. Three potential residents came, and said they were very impressed with the facilities, with one particularly excited about the spa bath, commenting “I haven’t had a bath in 20 years – that’s the first thing I’m going to do!”
“It was a wonderful event,” Home Manager, Pyela Mwale, said. “We were all very excited and cheerful, and it was certainly a milestone for us as a team.”
The team has been busy preparing for the opening of the home, with some employees having commenced work last year.
Champagne was flowing, but coffee and tea was on hand, while plenty of finger food was available to visitors.
