The Lakes Care Centre in South Cerney hosted their Dementia Support Day on the 8th August with over 60 people in attendance. We had 3 informative talks amongst rounds of tea, cake and Pimm’s!
Our first talk was delivered by Sara Wilcox from Pathways Through Dementia, Sara talked through the legal aspects of care from the different Power of Attorney options to disputes over wills plus the court of protection process.
After a slice of cake, we sat down to listen to Nikki Rowe our Admiral Nurse (specialist dementia nurse) who talked through reminiscence therapy, the senses and wellbeing for those living with Dementia. Nikki also bought along PARO, our therapy seal, as well as twiddle muffs and various other items which may help with someone’s day to day wellbeing.
Our final talk of the day was from Kate Hick-Beach of Mindsong, Kate’s session was very interactive and had people laughing and even singing! Kate spoke about the positive impact singing can have to people living with Dementia. Kate bought along some Mindsong volunteers to talk about their experiences within care homes and their interactions with residents.
The day was well received by all and we ended the evening with nibbles and Pimm’s on the lawn.
