Gloucestershire held their annual volunteer awards to celebrate the amazing work they do.
The appreciation event was held at Hatherley Manor Hotel where we welcomed over 60 volunteers and team members from across the County. The volunteers were treated to a delicious afternoon tea and a glass of fizz!
Our fantastic team of volunteers help in a variety of ways including befriending our residents, gardening, sharing their musical skills or even enjoying an evening beer in the ‘man shed’! They bring the community in and are part of every homes’ wider family, their precious gift of time helps the residents live a rich and fulfilled life.
Not only did our fabulous volunteers dine on afternoon tea, they also had the treat of being drawn by a caricaturist, this was great entertainment and the volunteers loved seeing themselves as cartoons. We particularly liked the caricature of one of our PAT (pets as therapy) dogs, Nettle.
Awards were given out for milestone achievements, 1 year, 5 years and other impressive achievements. Linda from Jubilee Lodge celebrated 10 years as a volunteer, Daphne from Paternoster House celebrated 15 years and Nancy from The Elms celebrated an astonishing 30 years!
Sian Dewhurst, Volunteer and Events Manager said “We had a fabulous Afternoon Tea celebration event recognising the achievements of our lovely volunteers. When volunteers reach certain milestones, we take great pleasure in celebrating them and presenting them with certificates and small gifts. 51 volunteers attended the event and most went home with a keep sake caricature. It was a great opportunity for us all to get together and share some of our heart-warming stories. It’s great to feel part of the volunteering family at OSJCT and these events certainly help to bring us all together”.
Sue Lane, HR Director said “It was clear to see the commitment and enthusiasm of our volunteers who spend time in our Homes. Their visits enrich the lives of our residents, thank you to all of our volunteers”.
Our volunteers help our residents live life to the full and they bring a lot of fun to the homes. They are a special group of people and we couldn’t run without them, thank you to all the volunteers who support our homes throughout Gloucestershire and the wider trust.
