Nationwide Corporate Volunteers bring a taste of Hollywood to Ridgeway House
On Wednesday 9 September Ridgeway House was delighted to welcome 14 corporate volunteers who brought with them a taste of Hollywood. The ‘great day in’ was part of Nationwide’s corporate volunteering day and 11 staff members spent the day chatting, cake decorating, dancing and having high tea with residents.
The Nationwide volunteers, along with communication / production agency drp, transformed one of the home’s living areas into a fully functioning cinema, decorated with traditional 1940 red curtain drapes, a big screen and bunting. The residents were treated to a private screening of Casablanca, a film chosen by the residents from a selection of six movie titles. Ice cream and popcorn was served to residents watching the afternoon film adding to the whole experience.
Barbara Fennell, who has lived at Ridgeway House for two years, said she loved the fun atmosphere the day had brought to the home. “It’s been so happy today and it’s nice that we’re able to do something like this that brings us all together,” she said. Jill Nutt, who wore a purple Stetson to the film, said she had her tissues at the ready ahead of the film’s afternoon showing. “It’s a bit of a tearjerker so I’m prepared to shed a few tears today,” she said.
Before leaving later in the afternoon, the Nationwide team presented residents with goodie bags that included jars of traditional sweets.
We can’t express how much we appreciate all of the time and effort spent by Nationwide to get everything together for the day. Everyone on their team was so friendly and nice, and our residents really enjoyed spending time with all the Nationwide volunteers that took part.
