Our homes' best cakes, handicrafts, vegetables and floral displays were showcased at our fifth annual Flower, Vegetable & Craft Show. 150 residents, staff, volunteers and guests joined us at the event held at Seend Community Centre on Wednesday 3 September.
We were delighted that the the homes Victoria Sandwiches and scones were judged by Gill Acornley and Colleen Russell from Seend Women’s Institute, the vegetable produce by Brian Jacques from Seend & District Gardening Society and retired Ridgeway House manager, Jane Ridgwell. The floral arrangements and Fruity Artwork were judged by Rosalyn Clarke and Anne Burgess from Melksham Floral Society and the homes handicrafts and jams by Tania Arnold and Teresa Baldwin of the OSJCT’s training team.
Over 30 awards were presented by OSJCT’s Care Director, Richard Hawes to distinguish the very best in each category, with first and second place winners being awarded a rosette and certificate to recognise their hard work and dedication.
In addition to the Show awards, the Trust in Bloom gardening awards were also presented by Robin Khokhar, Wiltshire Assistant Operations Director, recognising the best home gardens in the county.
This year for the first time homes were invited to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy as the judging was taking place, accompanied by musical entertainment by ukulele band Ukebox Jury.
