Langford View Care Home in Bicester, Oxfordshire has embraced the warm weather over the past few weeks and has kicked off the summer with a host of sunshine-filled activities.
For many, the summer truly began with the unmistakable chimes of a visit from the ice cream van. As temperatures in Bicester reached a balmy 28ᵒC, residents each enjoyed a 99 with a chocolate flake, attempting to eat them before the ice cream melted.
As well as ice cream, June is also the month for juicy, ripe strawberries and a visit to the local pick-your-own farm gave residents the chance to relive memories of picking fruit as children. Proving too tempting, many of the strawberries accidentally found their way into mouths rather than the baskets: as one resident put it, “one for the basket, one for me!” The pickings that did make it back home were enjoyed by everyone for a tasty strawberries and cream afternoon tea.
Royal Ascot was another opportunity to enjoy afternoon tea; this time while watching the racing and wearing fancy hats for Ladies’ Day. There was much excitement over seeing Her Majesty the Queen’s outfit and spotting the most unusual hats in the crowds.
After having started the summer in style with glorious weather, Langford View is hoping for some more long, warm days because there is still a lot more fun lined up. The summer fete is on 14th July from 2pm until 4pm: enter the raffle, fill up on barbeque food and sweets from the vintage sweet stall or even try your hand at karaoke!
There is much more going on at Langford View over the next few months so please do keep an eye out on their Facebook page for updates.
