West of England Festival of Textiles (WEFT) 2015
For WEFT (West of England Festival of Textiles) 2015, the Trowbridge Museum is working with local community groups on the project ‘Weaving as Therapy’, The project focuses on working with simple forms of weaving using a cardboard loom and examining the weavers experiences and memories which appear during the process. We are thrilled that four of our Wiltshire homes are taking part in this exciting project. Nikki Ritson of Trowbridge Museum visited Athelstan House in Malmesbury on 28 August and ran the first ‘Weaving as Therapy’ session. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the experience and created some lovely weaves, which Nikki took away with her to be included in the WEFT display at the museum. BBC Wiltshire radio broadcast journalist, Rhiannon Fitz-Gerald, recorded interviews with some of the residents about their thoughts on the project.
