Exploring Ageing through Art -
In partnership with New Brewery Arts, OSJCT successfully applied for funding from the Baring Foundation's "Late Style Programme" for an innovative art project - "Exploring Ageing through Art". Robert Race, an artist who is over 70 himself, was comissioned to create an automaton on the theme of ageing. An important part of the project was to engage and involve older people, ensuring that the finished piece would be accessible to all, including those with varying levels of cognitive impairment.
Working with residents at OSJCT's Millbrook Lodge care home over some months, Robert inspired and assisted residents to print, cut, fold and craft to create their own small automata, making something new each week. He has used this experience and his own thoughts on ageing to shape and inspire his final piece, "Getting On". Click here to see a film about this exciting project.
The artwork is now "on tour" and is currently on display at Athelstan House in Malmesbury. From there, it will be going to Ashwood Care Centre in Warminster (20 June - 29 July) and will subsequently be displayed at Hungerford House, Corsham (1 August - 9 September), Coombe End Court in Marlborough (12 September - 21 October), Meadowcroft in Thame (24 October - 2 December) before returning 'home' to Millbrook Lodge in October 2017.
