Athelstan House Night Care Leader Rebbeca (Becki) Deacon, has won a new Ferrers Innovation Award introduced by OSJCT in the 2021 Employee Awards. Becki was presented with her award by Home Manager, Sara Cryer earlier this month, along with the Employee Unsung Hero Award.
On receiving her awards Becki said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to have won them and I have already found the perfect place for them at home. I am honoured to represent our lovely home. It is such a privilege to work with such great people supporting our wonderful residents.”
The Ferrers Innovation Award is sponsored by OSJCT Patron, The Earl Ferrers. It was launched to encourage those who work at the Trust to suggest innovative ways to improve the lives of all those who live and work there.
Becki won her award for introducing evening and night-time activities for residents with dementia, to help them become more settled before bedtime, or as a distraction when waking from sleep before morning. Residents were encouraged to involve themselves in activities associated with the evening. One lady finds comfort in closing curtains and others take part in dog walking.
Becki explained: “I take my dog Bailey in when I work a night shift, to help with residents’ wellbeing. They take him for indoor walks which keeps them active. For those who wake and become agitated at night Bailey keeps them calm.”
The Earl Ferrers said: “The care sector has and is still experiencing a torrid time. It continues to be ‘all hands-on deck’. However, it is important that we don’t become absorbed in this to the exclusion of all else; the Ferrers Innovation Award encourages staff to come up with novel and creative operational ideas to improve the Trust for its colleagues and residents.”
Becki was one of just three Award winners, the other two were Sian Rees, Finance Team Leader, based at OSJCT’s office in Lincoln and Corrie-Ann Sroga, an Activities Coordinator, at Hartsholme House in Lincoln.
