Bank holiday beach experience at Henry Cornish
Residents at Henry Cornish Care Centre in Chipping Norton were delighted when their home’s garden was turned into an interactive sensory beach experience for the day.
Henry Cornish Home Manager, Renata Crisostomo, explained: “We usually take a trip to the coast at this time of year, which is something our residents really look forward to. So, we decided to bring the beach to Henry Cornish instead for an experience our residents could enjoy safely this bank holiday.”
Residents encountered all the mainstays of the classic British seaside in the fully sensory experience. The team at the home organised water to paddle and seaside backdrops, which were appreciated in the late summer sunshine. Residents also enjoyed a barbeque lunch and ice cream cornets, while seaside-themed games were a blast from the past for residents.
Henry Cornish resident Colin Crowhurst said: “I really enjoyed the barbeque, it reminds me of the days I used to have barbeques on the beach.” Fellow resident Joyce Tyrrell added: “I have had the most fantastic day,” and her neighbour Phillip Nicks said: “It was incredible, I had so much fun.”
Renata said: “We designed this experience to adhere to OSJCT’s robust hygiene, PPE and social distancing protocols. We have been so lucky with the weather and this has been a great way to keep cool in the heat today and begin the bank holiday weekend.”
She added: “Bringing the beach to Henry Cornish has been a great source of reminiscence and sensory therapy for our residents, and most importantly it’s been loads of fun. Residents have really enjoyed themselves.”
