Residents and colleagues from Bemerton Lodge Care Home in Salisbury have once again demonstrated their wonderful community spirit by volunteering to support the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2026.
Marking the official launch of this year's Poppy Appeal in Salisbury, residents Annabel and Colin L were joined by colleagues Leanne and Courage at their local Sainsbury's store, generously giving their time to help raise awareness and funds for this important annual campaign.
Continuing a much-loved tradition at Bemerton Lodge, the team enthusiastically volunteered for two collection slots on the opening day, welcoming shoppers, sharing smiles and encouraging members of the local community to wear their poppies with pride.
The Royal British Legion's annual Poppy Appeal raises vital funds to support serving and former members of the Armed Forces and their families. The campaign also provides an important opportunity for communities across the country to come together in remembrance, honouring the sacrifices made by those who have served.
Rebecca Kilgour, Home Manager at Bemerton Lodge, commented:
We are incredibly proud of Annabel, Colin, Leanne and Courage for giving their time to support such a meaningful cause. The Poppy Appeal is particularly special to many of our residents, who have personal memories and connections to the Armed Forces and wartime experiences. It's wonderful to see our residents actively involved in supporting the local community, continuing a tradition that means so much to everyone at Bemerton Lodge.
Supporting Remembrance, Wellbeing and Community Connections
Taking part in community volunteering initiatives such as the Poppy Appeal offers significant benefits for older people living in care homes. These opportunities encourage social interaction, promote independence and provide a valuable sense of purpose and achievement.
For many residents, Remembrance is also a deeply personal occasion, providing opportunities to reflect on their own experiences, share memories and stories with younger generations, and feel connected to important national traditions.
Community involvement is an important part of life at Bemerton Lodge, where residents are encouraged to remain active, maintain meaningful relationships and contribute to causes close to their hearts.
The Bemerton Lodge team will continue volunteering at Sainsbury's over the next two weeks, supporting the Poppy Appeal and helping to raise awareness of the Royal British Legion's important work.
If you're shopping locally and spot the Bemerton Lodge volunteers, please stop by, say hello and pick up a poppy to show your support.
A heartfelt thank you to Annabel, Colin, Leanne and Courage for helping to make a difference in the Salisbury community. Lest we forget.
