Bemerton Lodge scoops award for embedding music within its care
Bemerton Lodge is delighted to be named as Musica Wiltshire’s Care Home of the Month for January.
Musica Wiltshire visits the home twice a month to run hour-long musical workshops which include movement, singing, percussion playing, performance and conversation with an emphasis on fun and participation. The sessions are designed to engage and stimulate residents, encourage reminiscence and boost their self-esteem and overall well-being.
Karen Owen, Musica Wiltshire Co-ordinator, said visiting Bemerton Lodge was always a highlight for her.
She said: “It has such a family atmosphere; I feel I'm at home as soon as I walk in the door. The care staff know their residents very well and Caroline, the Activities Co-ordinator, does a great job in the sessions making sure everyone is happy and feeling looked after.”
Karen added it was lovely to see residents responding to the sessions, adding: “In each session you see that not only are they collectively enjoying themselves, but on an individual level reactions to the music are developing over time.”
The awards were introduced last year in order to recognise those homes that were demonstrating person-centred care and embedding music within their care for the benefit of residents.
Bemerton Lodge Home Manager Rebecca Flood said: “Our residents thoroughly enjoy their sessions with Karen, and always look forward to them. We are very proud to be named as Musica Wiltshire’s Care Home of the Month and hear such lovely comments from Karen.”
