Westgate House hold games sports day due to bad weather

Westgate House may have had to change its plans because of the weather, but that certainly didn’t stop residents and the team from having a fantastic sports day!

Moving the activities indoors didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits, with an afternoon full of games, laughter and friendly competition. Residents got involved in the fun, with staff and members of the management team joining in too, creating plenty of smiles and some wonderful moments together.

Home Manager Daniela Midwinter said: “It was lovely to see everyone getting involved in our sports day, especially as we had to bring the activities indoors at the last minute. The games gave us all a chance to have fun together, share a few laughs and enjoy some friendly competition. Taking part in activities we enjoy and spending time together can make a real difference to our wellbeing, and it was wonderful to see so many smiles around the room.”

Resident Jack particularly enjoyed seeing the whole team get involved, saying: “I thought it was brilliant! It was lovely to see everyone join in with the fun, having a laugh and enjoying themselves together. It didn’t matter who won – the best part was taking part and having such a good afternoon.”

Sports day was also a great reminder that keeping active doesn’t have to mean running around a field. Physical activities can help people maintain strength, mobility and coordination, while puzzles, games and other activities that get people thinking offer opportunities to keep minds active. Just as importantly, shared activities give residents the chance to enjoy one another’s company, feel included and take part in something together.

At Westgate House, activities are about finding enjoyable ways for everyone to get involved, whatever their interests or abilities. Whether it’s a game, a puzzle or a little friendly competition, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the benefits of staying active and connected.

There may have been a change of plans, but the afternoon was a brilliant success. With everyone cheering each other on, joining in and sharing plenty of laughs, it was clear that at Westgate House, everyone is a winner!
