Capturing life through the lens at Farnham Common House
Farnham Common House proudly celebrated World Photography Day with a special photo gallery event themed “An Entire Day.”
The day gave residents the chance to explore their creativity behind the camera, capturing snapshots of their everyday lives both in and around the home.
Residents showcased a wonderful collection of photographs following the theme, with each image telling a story from their perspective: from quiet moments in the garden to activities around the home, and even creative interpretations of “To Work I Go.”

Adding a special touch to the celebration, local photographer Kevin Day, a member of the Stoke Poges Photographic Club, joined residents for the day. Kevin not only displayed a selection of his own work but also offered to take professional portraits of residents, gifting each family a photograph to treasure.
Kevin said,
“It has been a pleasure to take portraits of residents and gift them to their families. These are lasting memories that can be cherished forever.”

Families and staff gathered in the home’s community lounge to view the residents’ photographs and Kevin’s display, sparking wonderful conversations and fond memories. Some families had their portraits taken together, creating new moments to add to the collection.
Resident Jeanne shared,
“It’s great to see the photos I’ve taken on display. I’d never taken a selfie before using a mobile phone, so I learned something new!”
Resident Shirley added,
“Photography is an art form. Each photo can be interpreted in so many different ways — it’s interesting to hear everyone’s opinions.”
Home Manager Nathan Manthorp said,
“The event was a great way for residents to express themselves creatively and connect with others. Seeing everyone so engaged and proud of their work was wonderful.”
The day was a true celebration of creativity, learning, and togetherness, perfectly capturing moments that reflect the vibrant life at Farnham Common House.
