The Castle: Bringing Community and Comfort to Avonbourne
At Avonbourne, we’re not just about providing a comfortable place to live; we’re about creating a vibrant community.
One of the ways we do this is through The Castle, our very own onsite pub, named by the residents themselves after the beautiful Old Sarum site, visible from our grounds. More than just a place to enjoy a pint or cup of tea, The Castle is a lively hub where residents come together to share stories, laughs, and good times.
For many, pubs have been a core part of social life - places where friendships flourish, and connections are deepened. We believe that isn’t something anyone should have to leave behind when they come to live in a care home. We’ve created a welcoming space with familiar touches like a pool table, quiz nights, and games evenings that bring out everyone’s competitive spirit! It’s open to residents of both Avon Court and Bourne House.
Social spaces like The Castle play a crucial role in helping our residents maintain a sense of normal life; they help foster independence and create a regular place to visit, socialise, and celebrate daily life. Whether it’s a regular catch up with friends or a spontaneous gathering to watch a match, The Castle offers plenty of opportunities for residents to reminisce and reconnect.
From swapping stories of their favourite pubs and nights out, to playing old games with new friends, residents find comfort in these shared experiences. Familiar sounds - the clinking of glasses, laughter, the call of a game starting - all bring back fond memories and spark new ones.
The Castle is truly at the heart of our community at Avonbourne, allowing residents to enjoy life, surrounded by friends and fun. It’s a place where joy is celebrated, friendships are strengthened, and where each visit feels like coming home. We’re proud to provide this special gathering space, where every day offers the chance to connect, laugh, and relive cherished memories together.
