Cathy's First Christmas as Home Manager at Athelstan House
New Home Manager, Cathy, enjoys the festive celebrations with Athelstan House residents
Cathy Fountain has been the Home Manager at Athelstan since November and has enjoyed tremendously getting to know the residents and celebrating their first Christmas together.
Here are some interesting facts about our new manager:
Cathy trained as a nurse and after qualifying, she travelled and worked abroad in Australia, Saudi Arabia and the Channel Islands before returning home.
Following a short break whilst caring for her children, she returned to nursing in 1992 as a part-time nurse in a care home in Salisbury. Whilst there she took on several different roles, from home trainer, Senior Nurse, Matron and then became Home Manager in 2006. She went on to lead a team caring for up to 80 residents over ten years, leaving in 2016.
Following this, Cathy managed a home in Marlborough where she successfully guided the home from a 'requires improvement' to a 'good' rating in all five CQC categories.
Cathy has two children, Lizzie and Chris. Lizzie is a lawyer living in Bath with her husband and two children, Evie who is four and a half and Henry who is two and a half. Chris is a teacher in London and lives with his wife and daughter Iona who is eight months old.
Her grandchildren are the loves of her life and she spends a lot of her free time either in Bath or London - and is one of the reasons she re-located from Salisbury and came to work at Athelstan House!
Apart from her family, she loves to travel, read novels, indulge in retail therapy and socialise with friends. She says she is really happy to be working at Athelstan House; the atmosphere is always warm and welcoming and it's clear that the staff are happy in their work and passionate about providing the very best care for the residents.
Cathy believes it is a huge privilege to care for others and strives to offer the highest standards in all areas of home life be it care, hospitality, the environment, quality of activity provision to name but a few.
She remarked that the home itself is beautiful and will be further enhanced by refurbishment works taking place this year.
Cathy is looking forward to continuing to get to know everyone who is connected with Athelstan House.
