"Chimp 'N' Tea Party Brings Joy to Residents at Larkrise Care Home"
Residents at Larkrise care home in Banbury recently enjoyed a memorable afternoon during their 'Chimp 'N' Tea' party. Their wish of hosting squirrel monkeys in their home turned into a heartwarming reality. Two common (olive-capped) primates, Catness and Antonio, won the affection of everyone in attendance as they playfully swung from the shoulders of their handlers, Jersey Shepherd and Barbara Marquez from Amazing Animals.
It comes as no surprise that these endearing creatures were sought after as special guests. The squirrel monkeys had a splendid time mingling with the residents, radiating a deep sense of joy and curiosity. When questioned about the monkeys' comfort, we received a unanimous response that these sociable creatures revel in exploring new surroundings and were far from scared. In fact, it was often a challenge to determine who was having more fun—the residents or the monkeys themselves!
Tracey Edwards, Home Manager at Larkrise, shared her delight: “What an afternoon it was! We all had so much fun. It was great to witness the residents' joy during the long-anticipated visit from the squirrel monkeys.”
In addition to the monkeys, the care home's staff added an extra layer of charm to the event by dressing up as their favourite animals. They served sandwiches and cakes to the residents, their families, and dedicated volunteers. Some of the residents even joined the festivities by donning their favourite animal masks, fully immersing themselves in the spirit of the afternoon.
To make the occasion even more special, a selection of delicious cakes was available for sale, with the proceeds going to support a local Banbury animal charity, Dogs for Good. Carol Shearman and Ken MacIver, local volunteers from Dogs for Good, were thrilled to be chosen as the supported charity. Carol emphasised the profound impact of residents interacting with animals, forming unique and heartwarming bonds.
Jill, a resident at Larkrise, couldn't contain her excitement: “I was so pleased to see how well the event was received, and it was touching to witness so many residents coming together to enjoy themselves. We're already looking forward to the next one.”
The 'Chimp 'N' Tea' party at Larkrise care home was more than just an event, it epitomised the spirit of joy and happiness that these animals bring out in all of us. The visit from Catness and Antonio, the themed costumes, and the charity fundraising all combined to create an afternoon filled with treasured moments for the residents and the entire community.
