Christmas at Larkrise: A Day of Joy and Togetherness
At Larkrise Care Centre, Christmas is about more than just presents and meals.
It's a day where everyone, from the staff to the residents, comes together to create a special atmosphere.
Jade, the Activity Coordinator, ensures the residents' day starts with a surprise-filled stocking on their door. The residents' stockings, filled with donated items from local businesses, staff members and friends, bring a smile to their faces.
It's a team effort on Christmas Day—the staff work together to ensure every resident has a great time. Even staff who aren’t scheduled to work pop in, some with their families to make sure everyone has the best Christmas possible. “We are all one extended family at Larkrise” says one carer.
Tracey, the Home Manager, starts the day by showing appreciation to her team with handmade presents. Even those not working that day receive their gifts later, ensuring everyone feels valued.
Different areas of Larkrise have their unique way of opening presents, making the day personal for everyone. Residents of Park open their presents in the dining room, whilst residents in the Strand, open their presents in the lounge in front of the Christmas tree and the fire. Mulled wine and mince pies are a plenty and everyone looks forward to a fantastic day ahead.
The meals are a treat, residents start with a hearty breakfast and then have a traditional Christmas Turkey or Nut Roast lunch with all the trimmings including all the vegetables, potato done two ways and most people’s favourite, Pigs in Blankets at midday. Dessert includes Christmas pudding with cream or custard or Peaches and cream.
Christmas day doesn’t lack in activities, after lunch is spent playing games and watching Christmas films, ensuring there's something for everyone. The delicious food keeps on coming as mince pies and drinks available all day and later on in the evening, —there's a buffet and even Christmas cake!
Newcomers like Ron are excited about their first Christmas at Larkrise, while others, like Gill, look forward to the delicious food and festive movies.
Throughout December, the lead-up to Christmas is very busy with local school choirs, baking sessions, and crafting decorations. The residents’ Christmas party was a hoot, with several resident’s singing their heart out. The community spirit is alive at Larkrise, making the season special for everyone.
At Larkrise, Christmas isn't just a day; it's a season of togetherness and joy, creating lasting memories for all.
