Ever wondered what Christmas Day is like in a care home? At Townsend House, the festive season is all about creating a warm, welcoming and fun atmosphere for residents.
Ever wondered what Christmas Day is like in a care home? At Townsend House, the festive season is all about creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere for residents. Jacqueline Smith, Activities Co-ordinator, gave us an insight into what’s planned for Christmas Day and the surrounding festivities.
Christmas Eve
During the afternoon, carolers from the local church will visit to sing and bring traditional Christmas cheer to everyone at the care home. Residents will also enjoy looking at Christmas cards sent to them by Endeavour School and Barton Community Centre. These thoughtful gestures are always appreciated by our residents.
Later that day, residents will enjoy a relaxed yet festive evening, as they have chosen to hold a gathering in the home’s main lounge with wine, nibbles and Christmas songs. Raymond Bennett loves a singalong and is looking forward to getting together with his fellow residents for this festive occasion.
Christmas Day
Christmas morning begins with Santa and Jacqueline handing out presents to each resident. It’s a highlight of the day and a lovely way to start the celebrations.
Residents will enjoy a traditional Christmas lunch together before watching Christmas films for a relaxed and cosy end to the day.
Members of St Mary’s Church in Barton will also visit during the day to bring more gifts for residents, a kind and much-valued gesture from the community.
Boxing Day
Boxing Day will offer residents time to relax after the excitement of Christmas Day. They can enjoy classic festive films like A Muppet Christmas Carol and White Christmas, followed by a Boxing Day buffet.
Friday activities
During this day, residents will be invited to reflect on past Christmases and share their memories and stories during a “Christmas Reminiscing” session. A lively game of Christmas Bingo will take place in the afternoon.
Thanks to the community
The team at Townsend House would like to thank everyone in the community for their support and kindness throughout the year.
Jacqueline said: “We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Your generosity makes a real difference to our residents, and we are truly grateful.
“From all of us at Townsend House, we wish you a peaceful and happy festive season.”
