The Commonwealth Games comes to Grace Care Centre
The Commonwealth Games was even more popular than usual this year as it was hosted in England for only the third time since it began in 1930. This time it was Birmingham who hosted the showpiece event as the country tuned it to watch England finish second in the overall medal table.
The residents at Grace Care Centre joined the rest of the country by tuning in to watch the magnitude of events. However, they decided to take it one step further by organising and competing in their very own Commonwealth Games.
Residents chose which country to represent and competed against each other in a range of games. These included bowling, shotput, archery, and a coordination agility game called cardio wall.
The winners in each event had their opportunity take to the podium and hear the national anthem from the country they represented. A special mention to one of the resident’s daughters at Grace Care Centre, thank you to Jane who took the time to make bespoke medals which were also awarded on the podium.
Mel Isherwood, Home Manager at Grace Care Centre, said: “We have great fun competing in our own Commonwealth Games. Grace Care Centre is a home filled with laughter and it was wonderful to hear the cheers and laughter from everyone involved.”
