Residents, colleagues, families and friends at Coombe End Court enjoyed a morning of delicious homemade treats and friendly competition as the care home hosted its very own Bake Off in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.
With an impressive selection of cakes and bakes on offer, the important task of judging was handed over to Coombe End Court’s kitchen team, who put their culinary expertise to good use.
Taking the top spot was Courtney, Deputy Manager, with her indulgent Kinder chocolate slices, while Siobhan, Activities Coordinator, was named runner-up with her homemade lemon sponge, filled with lemon curd and topped with cream cheese frosting.
The Bake Off formed part of the home’s Macmillan Coffee Morning, bringing people together over coffee, conversation and, of course, plenty of cake.
Throughout the morning, visitors dropped in to support the event and helped raise a fantastic £56.03 in cash, alongside further generous donations made online for Macmillan Cancer Support.

It was such a lovely morning and wonderful to see residents, colleagues, families and visitors coming together to support such an important cause. There was a brilliant atmosphere throughout the home, and the standard of baking was certainly impressive! I’d like to thank everyone who baked, donated or joined us for a coffee and a slice of cake. Every contribution helps Macmillan continue its incredibly important work.
Events like this can play an important role in life at a care home. They create opportunities for residents to socialise, meet visitors and remain connected with their local community, while taking part in something with a shared purpose. Familiar occasions such as coffee mornings and baking events can also spark memories and conversations, encourage participation and, most importantly, bring people together for an enjoyable experience.
For residents, being part of a fundraising event also provides an opportunity to continue contributing to causes that matter to them. Supporting a national charity such as Macmillan can create a real sense of involvement and purpose, demonstrating that life in a care home remains very much connected to the people, communities and causes beyond its doors.
