Coombe End Court team completes specialist dementia training
At Coombe End Court, and OSJCT, we are committed to ensuring that all our staff receive the best possible training to support them in delivering the very best care to our residents.
Several members of our team at Coombe End Court recently completed “Step With Me,” a specialist dementia training programme designed to support our employees to be more aware of the myths and stereotypes that are often associated with dementia. It also served as an introduction to communication tools and language to use when supporting our residents who are living with dementia.
The course covered person-centred care and building relationships when caring for someone living with dementia, and how to support our residents with all elements of their well-being, whatever the stage of their dementia journey.
We are proud to have so many members of team having completed this training, that has given each of them a good understanding of advanced communication and language when supporting people living with dementia. They have come away with an increased understanding of person-centred care and relationship-centred care, and the impact feelings can have on behaviour.
The OSJCT “Step With Me” programme is delivered by our Admiral Nurses, registered nurses who specialise in dementia care. Their role has several key functions, including delivering dementia-specific training and education, which benefits care teams across our estate. The Admiral Nurses also provide emotional support through reflective support and practice, to our residents but also to their families.
