Sports-loving residents at Grace Care Centre were bowled over by a special visit from the Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation, as they took part in one of the first trials of the Foundation’s new care home provision.
With funding supporting specialist equipment and training in accessible sports coaching, the Gloucestershire Cricket team delivered an enthusiastic and engaging session of cricket-inspired games, giving residents the opportunity to get active, have fun and enjoy some friendly competition.
The session also sparked plenty of conversation and wonderful memories. Residents shared stories about their own connections with cricket, from clubs they had supported to teams they had once played for.
One particularly poignant memory came from a resident who recalled playing cricket with friends in bomb craters during the Second World War, a powerful reminder of how sport can connect us with moments and memories from throughout our lives.
The visit was a fantastic addition to Grace Care Centre’s varied exercise and wellbeing programme, demonstrating how accessible sport can support physical activity while encouraging social connection, reminiscence and, most importantly, plenty of smiles.
