Crossing the Finish Line: Laura’s Half Marathon Journey for Lucca and The Horton Children’s Ward
Laura Beadle, stood at the start line of her very first Oxford Half Marathon in support of The Horton General Hospital Children’s Ward in Banbury. The place that saved her son Lucca’s life when he was just 12 days old.
On a bright but breezy October morning, Henry Cornish Care Centre Home Manager, Laura Beadle, stood at the start line of her very first Oxford Half Marathon. Surrounded by thousands of runners and an atmosphere buzzing with excitement, Laura was filled with a mix of nerves and determination. She wasn’t just there to run 13.1 miles — she was there for something far bigger.
Laura took on the challenge in support of The Horton General Hospital Children’s Ward in Banbury, the place that saved her son Lucca’s life when he was just 12 days old. Every mile she ran was a heartfelt thank you to the incredible doctors and nurses who had cared for her family during such a frightening and life-changing time.
Despite her busy life and limited training time, Laura remained focused on her goal. Balancing work, family, and preparation for the race wasn’t easy, but her motivation never wavered. “When things got tough, I kept thinking about why I was running,” Laura said. “For Lucca — and for all the families who rely on The Horton Children’s Ward.”
The run itself was no small feat. There were moments when her legs ached and the finish line seemed far away, but Laura pushed through — step by step — powered by determination and gratitude. After 2 hours and 27 minutes, she crossed the finish line, filled with emotion and pride.
Together with her husband James, Laura has raised over £331 (and counting) to support The Horton Children’s Ward, helping to provide comfort, care, and hope for children and families during their most challenging times.
Reflecting on her achievement, Laura shared, “I’ve come away from this experience amazed at what we’re capable of when we push ourselves. It’s shown me that with the right motivation — and a bit of courage — we can go beyond what we think is possible.”
Everyone at OSJCT is incredibly proud of Laura and James for taking on this amazing challenge and for continuing to give back to the community that once gave them so much.
