David Johnston MP visits residents at Stirlings Care Home in Wantage
MP joined residents for afternoon tea during Care Home Open Week
David Johnston, MP for Wantage and Didcot, enjoyed afternoon tea with residents and employees at OSJCT Stirling Care Home in Wantage on Friday 2 July. The home organised the event as part of the national Care Home Open Week (28 June – 4 July) campaign which invites members of the community to interact with their local care homes.
Mr Johnston met residents, along with Home Manager Lisa Duffy and Activities Co-ordinator Angela Lindsay, at the home which cares for up to 40 residents with early-stage dementia and residential needs. He said: “Care homes play a vital role for so many families and we have all seen just how important they are during the pandemic. It was great to visit Stirlings Care Home, meet some of the residents and understand how they are cared for.”
OSJCT Stirlings Home Manager, Lisa Duffy, said: “We were very pleased that David came to visit to meet residents and find out more about our activities and services. Residents spoke about friendships made in our care home, vaccinations and hopes for the England team in Euro 2020.”
Ninety-six-year-old Mollie was delighted to meet her local MP. She said: “It was lovely for him to take time out of his busy job to come and chat with us. He was very approachable and down to earth.”
Care Home Open Week events encourage members of the public to find out more about their local care home and support the connection between residents and their local community.
OSJCT’s 65 care homes across the country organised many events including virtual garden tours, skills swaps, and Meet the Manager online meetings.
