Dementia Care in Amesbury
The team at Buckland Court has been thinking about dementia and Alzheimer's this month.
September is always World Alzheimer’s Month and this year, the theme has focused on getting to know dementia. What does it mean, how does a person’s behaviour or memory change, and what are the symptoms and early signs? Alzheimer’s is a disease that causes damage to the brain. It’s the most common cause of dementia, which is progressive, meaning that someone’s symptoms will get worse over time. One of the most important things to be aware of is that dementia is not just an inevitable part of getting old.
Buckland Court specialises in dementia care in Amesbury and our team is here to support residents living with dementia or Alzheimer’s. Each of our team is trained to recognise the symptoms (which might include things like memory loss or forgetfulness, or trouble solving problems or thinking straight) and to support people with these changes.
The care we give at Buckland Court is very much person-centred, meaning there is no ‘one-size fits all’ approach. Instead, we tailor our care to the individual, and to their likes and needs. There are lots of treatments available, either drugs from your GP, or alternative therapies to support someone after diagnosis. At Buckland Court, we run lots of activities aimed at keeping our residents busy, physically and mentally, but also socially, because we know how important it is for people to stay active. Music and singing, as well as arts and crafts, are good ways to get people engaged.
We’re encouraging people this month to find out more about dementia and the various forms it takes. There are lots of resources available, including on our website, and if you’d like to know more about how we support our residents living with dementia in Amesbury at Buckland Court, please do give us a call on 0800 988 8133 – we’d be delighted to help or show you around.
