Didcot care home resident celebrates 102nd birthday
Doris celebrates her 102nd birthday with cakes at The Meadows
Doris, a resident of The Meadows, Didcot, enjoyed special celebrations for her 102nd birthday with 102 cakes at a party organised by the Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) care home.
Carers and residents enjoyed the special cakes made especially for Doris by the kitchen at the home. Doris was surrounded by cakes and cards as the staff sang Happy Birthday to her.
Doris, who was born in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, in 1918, received flowers and cards from her husband and two sons. She was also gifted flowers and a hamper of goodies from the local Waitrose store.
Head of Care at OSJCT The Meadows, Debora Pinho, said: “We wish Doris a very happy birthday. She is a very cheerful resident and we were delighted to celebrate with her. Doris had a great big smile on her face whilst reading her cards and enjoying her party.”
Doris, who was modest about her birthday, said: “I don’t usually like to make a big fuss of myself, but I enjoy a slice of cake!”
Doris moved into the home in spring 2018 at the age of 99. Since moving to The Meadows, she has regained her mobility and no longer needs a wheelchair to move around.
When asked about the secret to a long life, Doris said: “I have always enjoyed life and I am a happy person.”
