Edwardstow Court residents have been having fun with their magic table
Residents at Edwardstow Court in Stow-on-the-Wold have been using their interactive projection system to play games and music - and generally, have fun!
The table developed by OMI, or to give it its full title 'the omiVista Mobii Interactive Projection System', is a motion-activated projection system creating dynamic images on a table or onto the floor.
Residents are able to play a wide variety of games including football, splat the spot, penny roll and even quizzes. The magic ‘table’ is mobile and can be used in residents’ rooms on the bed or on the floor in their room.
Amy Harrison, Activities Co-ordinator said, “Our residents really enjoy using the magic table, there’s a broad range of activities from sensory games to quizzes and memory games too! We feel privileged to have a piece of equipment like this!”.
There are many benefits to using such motion-activated systems in the care of older people, including -
* More flexibility and upper body movement/co-ordination
* Sustained moments of lucidity and brightness
* Raised well-being levels and improved emotional stability
* More motivation to stand up, stretch and physically participate
* Greater opportunities to share personal stories
* Home team get to know the person behind the dementia
* Can be calming or stimulating with a wide choice of activities
* Opportunity for residents to entertain themselves, independent of home team
* Flexibility of floor, table and bedside use making it fully inclusive
* More spontaneous singing!
