Exotic animals visit Salisbury care home
Scorpions, pythons and geckos are not the sort of visitors you would expect to see every day at a care home – but they were among the exotic creatures who recently made an appearance at Avonbourne Care Centre near Salisbury.
Residents at the home, part of The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT), love spending time with animals and have regular visits from Pets as Therapy dogs. But they recently enjoyed being joined by some altogether more unusual creatures when Zoolab made a visit.
Youngsters from nearby Old Sarum Nursery were also invited to the home to take part in the event.
The exotic pets brought in are used to being handled, and with a professional standing by, the children joined the residents in handling a gecko, a giant millipede, an African land snail and a gerbil. The scorpion and royal python were admired, but from a distance.
General Manager of Avonbourne Care Centre, Simon McLean said: “Our residents like to experience new things, and these exotic animals prove that any animal can be admired. It was such a pleasure to see the residents enjoy sharing their exciting day with the children from Old Sarum Nursery.”
