At Stirlings, the holiday spirit comes alive in a spectacular way with staff members dressed in festive Christmas attire, delighting residents with breakfast in bed featuring an array of pastries and sparkling Bucks Fizz on Christmas morning. But that's just the beginning of a day filled with joy and jubilation.
The festivities kick off with the Wantage Silver Band serenading Stirlings with enchanting Christmas melodies outside the home, setting the tone for the day ahead. Residents eager to partake in the communal celebrations gather in the main dining room for a magnificent three-course meal. It's a feast fit for the season, featuring the beloved classic: traditional Turkey accompanied by all the delightful trimmings, followed by the indulgence of Christmas pudding and mince pies.
Gift-giving becomes a heartwarming affair after lunch, spreading smiles and cheer among everyone. As evening descends, the merry celebrations continue with games and Christmas films. And of course, there's more mince pies and mulled wine.
Phoebe, the Head of Care, shares her enthusiasm for working on Christmas Day, emphasising how it embodies the essence of a family Christmas—one she cherishes dearly and doesn’t have at home.
Speaking to residents ahead of Christmas Day, they shared their favourite things about Christmas and what they are most looking forward to on the day.
Vera: “I’m looking forward to having a good time! Stirlings always put on a great day. My family live a long way, so I’m spending Christmas with my Stirlings family.”
Monica: “I’m looking forward to my Traditional Turkey dinner and all the trimmings, especially as I don’t have to cook it!”
Derek: “The best thing about Christmas is the food, especially the mince pies!”
Barabara: “I’m looking forward to my birthday, which happens to be on Christmas Day. I insist on having two sets of presents, it’s only fair!”
Val: “Flowers, my grandma always used to have flowers - she would let us choose our own flowers. I love Christmas, I have been good this year I think, I hope I have.”
Vernon: “I spent a lot of my Christmas’ in South Africa, Christmas used to be very different there. It would be very sunny; we would spend time playing football or going for a picnic. This year I am going to my daughters on Christmas day, all together with family from Australia. We will be comparing stories from the other side of the world, I can’t wait!
At Stirlings, Christmas brings joy and cherished moments together to create a great day for everyone involved.
