The visit gave residents the opportunity to get up close to some incredible birds of prey, learning more about the different species, their behaviour, characteristics and the important role these remarkable birds play in the natural world.

There was plenty of fascination as residents listened to stories and facts about the birds – and some were even brave enough to put on the glove and experience the thrill of having one of the birds perch on their hand.

What a fantastic experience for our residents. It was wonderful to see everyone so engaged and fascinated by these beautiful birds. Some of our residents were incredibly brave and took the opportunity to wear the glove and get even closer. Experiences like this bring something completely different into the home, create lots of conversation and, most importantly, give our residents special memories to share.

Interactive experiences like this can play an important role in residents’ wellbeing. Encountering animals and nature can stimulate the senses, encourage curiosity and spark memories and conversations. Shared experiences also create opportunities for social connection, helping residents engage with one another and the people around them. Bringing unusual and memorable activities into a care home can provide a real sense of excitement and anticipation, while supporting residents to continue discovering, learning and enjoying new experiences.
