Residents and team members at Fremantle Court Care Home in Stoke Mandeville came together to celebrate Nutrition and Hydration Week with a vibrant programme of activities designed to highlight the importance of food, drink and wellbeing.
Nutrition and Hydration Week is an annual global campaign that raises awareness of the vital role nutrition and hydration play in maintaining health, preventing dehydration and supporting overall wellbeing. At Fremantle Court, the team worked together to plan a week of engaging, hands-on activities that would bring these messages to life in a meaningful and enjoyable way.
The week began with a lively drink tasting session, where residents joined the Home Manager and Activities Team to sample a variety of refreshing options. The session sparked conversation, encouraged hydration and set the tone for a week focused on both wellbeing and enjoyment.
Day two brought a food tasting experience, with residents trying a range of new snacks and sharing their favourites. With a festive St Patrick’s Day twist, the day included traditional treats and even a small glass of Guinness, bringing smiles and a sense of celebration.
On day three, residents and team members got creative with fruit kebab making, combining colourful fruits such as strawberries and pineapple to create their own healthy snacks.
Day four offered a more traditional treat, with a classic afternoon tea. Residents enjoyed homemade scones with clotted cream and jam, raspberry cakes, fruit cakes and a selection of sandwiches.
The week concluded with a savoury tasting session, featuring a variety of freshly made quiches, including cheese and onion with Marmite, cheese and ham, and cheese and tomato alongside refreshing strawberry and orange smoothies. The day was made even more special as residents and staff came together to celebrate Jean’s birthday, adding to the sense of community and shared joy.
Throughout the week, the focus remained on making nutrition and hydration accessible, enjoyable and part of everyday life. By combining education with creativity and social interaction, the team at Fremantle Court created an environment where residents felt engaged, supported and inspired to make positive choices.
