Fremantle Court launches Carers Café with special visit from Aylesbury Town Mayor
Residents, families, staff and members of the local community came together at Fremantle Court in Stoke Mandeville, part of The Orders of St John Care Trust, to celebrate the official launch of the home’s new Carers Café in partnership with Carers Bucks.
The event was officially inaugurated by Nidhi Mehta, Mayor of Aylesbury, who attended as guest of honour and delivered a heartfelt opening speech. Addressing residents and guests, she shared:
“I have always loved being among the community, and visiting care homes is always a pleasure for me because it reminds me of my own parents who are back in India. Being with you makes me feel like I am with my parents, so it is a special and personal happiness for me. I am pleased to inaugurate this Carers Café, and I hope the community enjoys coming together at Fremantle Court.”
A live guitarist played nostalgic songs that took residents and guests down memory lane, with many sharing stories sparked by familiar tunes. The music created a warm and uplifting atmosphere, encouraging conversation and connection throughout the home.
Many members of the local community joined the celebration and were supported by the team to feel comfortable and included. Residents particularly enjoyed welcoming new faces into the home and valued the opportunity to socialise more widely during the event.
Fremantle Court resident, Coralie said:
“It’s lovely to see new faces, I loved the music, and it was a good atmosphere. I am looking forward to the next one.”
Alongside the music and conversation, guests enjoyed refreshments in a relaxed café setting.
Opening the event, Home Manager Deepthi Jose thanked guests for attending and spoke about the vision behind the initiative:
“We are proud to launch this Carers Café as part of our commitment to strengthening our links with the community. We want Fremantle Court to become a familiar and welcoming place for carers, many of whom are carrying out the same caring role that we do each day. This café is about offering support, understanding and a place to relax.”
The Carers Café will now take place on the last Friday of every month from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, providing a regular opportunity for carers, families and residents to come together, share experiences and feel supported within a trusted and welcoming environment.
The launch marked an important step in Fremantle Court’s ongoing commitment to building meaningful community connections and ensuring carers feel recognised, valued and supported.
