Grace Care Centre rated Outstanding by CQC

We are proud to announce that Grace Care Centre in Thornbury near Bristol has been rated Outstanding overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care in England.

Following a recent inspection, Grace Care Centre achieved the highest possible rating, placing it among the top-performing care homes in the country and recognising its exceptional standards of care, strong leadership, and unwavering commitment to person-centred support.

Grace Care Centre provides residential care for older people, including those living with dementia. Inspectors found a home where people are truly at the heart of everything, with care shaped around individual needs, preferences, and life histories.

The CQC report highlighted a culture where residents feel valued, listened to and respected, and where staff go above and beyond to support people to live fulfilling, meaningful lives. From reconnecting residents with long-standing friendships to enabling hobbies and encouraging independence, the team was praised for making every day purposeful.

Stefan Kallee, CQC’s Deputy Director of Adult Social Care for the South West, said:

“Grace Care Centre’s leadership genuinely puts people at the heart of everything they do, and that came through in every part of our visit. Staff knew people incredibly well, and that meant care was shaped around each person’s choices, routines and aspirations. We saw a service where people felt valued, listened to and respected.

“What stood out most was how much people were encouraged to live full, meaningful lives. Whether it’s supporting someone to reconnect with long-standing friendships, helping another person pursue a favourite hobby, or creating opportunities for people to take positive risks, staff went the extra mile to make every day feel purposeful.

“It’s also clear the management team leads with passion and compassion. They created an environment where staff felt trusted, supported and able to contribute ideas that improved people’s wellbeing. The strong relationships with volunteers, families and the wider community added to the vibrant, welcoming atmosphere we saw.”

Inspectors also praised the home’s inclusive and open culture, where staff are empowered to share ideas and continuously improve the quality of care. Strong partnerships with families, volunteers and local organisations further enrich residents’ lives and help maintain important community connections.

Karla Tutton, General Manager at Grace Care Centre, said:

“We are absolutely delighted to have been rated Outstanding by the CQC. This recognition reflects the dedication, professionalism and compassion of our entire team, who work tirelessly to provide the highest quality care every single day. Our residents are at the heart of everything we do, and we are incredibly proud of the warm, supportive community we have created.”

Feedback from residents and their families was overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the home as “exceptional,” “reassuring,” and “a place where people truly care.”

This Outstanding rating reinforces Grace Care Centre’s reputation as a leader in high-quality residential care and highlights the positive impact of its values-led approach to supporting older people.
