Hayward's Garden Flourishes at Devizes in Bloom Awards
Hayward Care Centre, Devizes, has been crowned winner of Best Residential and Care Home Garden in the annual Devizes in Bloom competition.
Judges chose the garden at Hayward Care Centre as this year’s winner in an achievement that reflects all the hard work residents, team members, volunteers and supporters from the local community have put in.
The awards, run by Devizes Town Council, are an opportunity for everyone to celebrate and enjoy the beautiful town, and visitors to Hayward’s grounds will know that they are a wonderful space with lots of colour and texture.
Judges were looking for the overall impact of the gardens, and for horticultural interest and variety. Marks were awarded for presentation, maintenance, sustainable measures taken, as well as perceived effort.
Special features in Hayward Care Centre’s garden include:
- A beautiful rose-garden, filled with colour and fragrance
- A wildlife area, detailing all the birds and animals that residents have spotted in the garden
- Accessible raised beds for growing herbs and vegetables
- A fairy garden with living plants and a water feature
- Lots of seating around the gardens so there is somewhere for everyone to enjoy the tranquility
Home Manager, Alison Stenning says, “We are all so glad to be nominated for the award and very proud that we won. The residents all worked so hard on our garden and together we believe we did a fantastic job, so its lovely to be recognised in this way.”
Jemima McGrath, Activity Co-ordinator, and resident, Helga, attended the award ceremony and collected the trophy and certificate, which are now proudly on display at the home.
