For Richard Sansom, a resident at Spencer Court, a lifelong love of golf was brought back to life with a special trip to the driving range.
Richard had shared with the team that one of his wishes was to have the opportunity to play golf again. Having enjoyed the sport for many years during his younger days, Richard had many happy memories of time spent on the course and was delighted when the team helped make his wish a reality.
The team arranged a special visit to Wychwood Golf Driving Range, where Richard enjoyed the chance to pick up his clubs once more and test his skills. With more than 75 golf balls to hit and a range of different targets to aim for, Richard spent the afternoon enjoying a hobby that had been such an important part of his life.
Richard was joined by fellow residents Sheila Thomas and Alan Walker, who came along to share the experience and enjoy the afternoon together. While Richard took his turn on the range, Sheila and Alan enjoyed watching the action and taking in the beautiful countryside views during the minibus journey.
The outing was a wonderful reminder of the importance of supporting residents to continue enjoying the hobbies, interests and experiences that bring them happiness and a sense of connection.
Richard said: “It was wonderful to get back to playing golf. I have enjoyed golf for many years, so being able to pick up a club again brought back lots of lovely memories. I had a fantastic afternoon and I’m very grateful to everyone who helped make it happen.”

“It was truly special to see Richard enjoying something that has meant so much to him throughout his life. We know how important it is to understand our residents as individuals, listen to their wishes and help them continue doing the things they love. Seeing Richard’s enjoyment and the smiles shared throughout the afternoon showed just how meaningful these experiences can be.”“We also loved seeing Sheila and Alan join Richard for the day. It was not just about golf, but about friendship, creating memories and enjoying time together outside of the home. These moments are at the heart of life at Spencer Court.”
At Spencer Court care home, residents are encouraged to pursue their interests, celebrate their personal stories and enjoy experiences that reflect who they are.
