Introducing Ashleigh Saunders, Head of Dementia Care at Edwardstow Court
As today is World Alzheimer’s Day this is a perfect opportunity to get to know Ashleigh a little better.
Ashleigh joined Edwardstow Court as the Head of Dementia Care in January 2020. Ashleigh has worked for OSJCT since 2014 including working for our sister home, Jubilee Lodge in Bourton on the Water. Ashleigh joined the Trust as a carer before progressing to a relief care leader, then becoming a night care leader and going on to become acting Head of Dementia Care at Jubilee Lodge.
Ashleigh enjoys that every day is different; she spends her time supporting residents, their relatives and the care team within the homes. Ashleigh finds working closely with the residents very rewarding and enjoys finding out more about their life histories and what makes them smile. Ashleigh works with the Admiral Nurse team to provide inclusive dementia care and enable the residents living with dementia to have purposeful and meaningful lives at Edwardstow Court.
It was this level of fulfilment that attracted Ashleigh to work in care homes initially, she wanted to build a career for herself by helping people. As Ashleigh spent more time working with the residents living with dementia, she realised she enjoyed this and working closely with their families. The joy that it brought her made such a difference, that’s when Ashleigh knew this was a career for life.
Outside of work Ashleigh enjoys reading, watching films and musicals, going to the theatre and socialising with friends and family. Ashleigh loves going camping with her family but doesn’t get away as often as she’d like.
