The Lakes Care Centre supports endangered penguins
The Lakes celebrates penguins and explores ways to protect this endangered group of seabirds.
The Lakes Care Centre are very proud to have adopted a Humboldt Penguin who lives at The Cotswold Wildlife Park. Residents will have regular updates on their penguin and will track their progress over the next year.
The home ran a competition where residents were asked to name a penguin, all names were put in a hat and the winning name was pulled out at the end of the day. The winning name was Jilly-Bean, which we think is perfect! The winning resident won a plush soft toy penguin.
The residents got to watch live feeds of the penguins at both Edinburgh Zoo and Kansas Zoo in the USA using the homes iPad. Residents are hoping to visit a local bird park in the summer to see the penguin feeding even closer.
The whole day was penguin themed, so residents also played a penguin board game, and they watched the animated film Happy Feet and the documentary ‘The march of the penguin’. Residents learnt that there are 17 species of penguins and all of them live in the Southern Hemisphere. It was a day full of fun!
