As England's World Cup campaign captured the attention of football fans across the country, residents at Lent Rise House welcomed pupils from Lent Rise School and sixth form students from Burnham Grammar School for a special intergenerational event inspired by the beautiful game.
Using football as a way to connect generations, residents and children spent the afternoon sharing memories, taking part in creative activities and discovering how a shared love of sport can spark conversations across all ages.
The World Cup themed session included football games, poetry, drawing and lively discussions about favourite players, memorable matches and the history of the tournament. While the younger visitors shared their excitement for England's match, residents reflected on football memories.
One of the afternoon's most memorable moments came when resident Ed shared that he had been at 1966 World Cup Final to witness England lift the World Cup. His first-hand account captivated the children, giving them a unique insight into one of the nation's most iconic sporting moments and prompted plenty of questions about what it was like to be there.
Louise Foyle-York, Home Manager at Lent Rise House, said:
"With England in the World Cup, football was the perfect theme to bring everyone together. It sparked so many conversations, and it was wonderful to see residents and children chatting so naturally. These visits mean a great deal to our residents, who genuinely look forward to them. They enjoy sharing their stories and experiences, while the children build new relationships and see first-hand how much they have in common with older generations."
For many residents, these visits have become one of the highlights of the month, offering the opportunity to spend time with young people, share their experiences and build meaningful friendships.
