Resident Mary enjoyed a memorable day out with Lewin House colleagues, exploring the powerful Standing with Giants display and spending time in the local community.

A special day out gave Lewin House resident Mary the opportunity to experience one of Buckinghamshire’s most moving outdoor displays, as she visited the Standing with Giants installation at Waddesdon Manor.

Set within the beautiful grounds of the Manor, the installation features hundreds of life-sized silhouettes, standing together across the landscape as a tribute to servicemen and women who lost their lives during conflict.

The Waddesdon display, titled For Your Tomorrow, commemorates the lives lost under British command on D-Day, 6 June 1944. The 1,476 life-sized figures each represent a life lost, helping visitors understand the human scale of the sacrifice made during the Normandy landings. The installation has also travelled to the British Normandy Memorial in France, overlooking Gold Beach, where it has formed part of the commemorations honouring those who fought for freedom.

For Mary, the visit was about enjoying the experience and making the most of a day out. She had time to take in the striking display, stop for a coffee, chat with other visitors and meet some of the dogs enjoying the grounds.

At Lewin House, outings like this are an important part of helping residents stay connected with the wider community, enjoy new experiences and continue doing the things that bring happiness and meaning to everyday life.

The Standing with Giants installation is a particularly powerful reminder of the importance of remembering the people behind history, and Mary’s visit gave her the chance to experience this remarkable tribute for herself.
