Lincolnshire Managers, Sal and Shelly, awarded prestigious medals for services to the care sector
BASMOM Awards
Sal Barton and Shelly Smith have been awarded Covid-19 Campaign Medals by the British Association of the Order of Malta (BASMOM) in recognition of their exceptional service to the field of social care. The Order of Malta is one OSJCT's two sponsoring orders.
Sal, the Deputy Manager at Beckside nursing home in North Hykeham, received her medal for managing the Covid-19 Designated Unit which was open from autumn 2020 to spring 2021 at Apple Trees care home, also run by OSJCT. Sal said: “I am incredibly proud of the team who came together to care for Covid-19 patients. We cared for some very vulnerable and frightened people. It was uplifting to see the many who recovered and went home.
“Working through the pandemic was emotional and I am honoured to receive this amazing medal which is proudly on show in my office.”
Shelly, Home Manager at Whitefriars in Stamford, has worked for OSJCT for six years. She said: “I feel honoured to have received this medal for services during the pandemic. I dedicate this amazing achievement to each and every one of my team at Whitefriars. Without their hard work and dedication, this award would not have been achieved. The ceremony will stay with me for the rest of my life, a very moving and uplifting ceremony. I feel truly honoured and proud to be part of such an amazing organisation.”
BASMOM medals are awarded annually at a special ceremony held at The Brompton Oratory, London, on 24 June, St John’s Day. This year, 51 OSJCT employees and volunteers have been awarded medals.
